This phrase just means that something has happened which you have witnessed or been a part of and you are thinking that people may start to talk about it, normally online, so that it spreads further than you thought it could and it gets so much attention that it makes you feel slightly unnatural about it.

For example. You may start a new fitness routine that has lots of people talking about it online and gets millions of views or comments about it. This is the 'viral' part where something gets a lot of attention suddenly. After a while the fitness routine may still be popular but may get you attention from people who may ask for your number or ask to see you. This is the 'gets weird' part.

So in summary, an action or event that starts to get a lot of public/media press but then gets you unwanted attention which makes you feel a little uneasy.

It's rare to hear someone use the term 'cherry-pick' because most people would just use 'pick' or something else.

If someone looks lost (holding a map, turning it around etc), a passerby could say"can I help you with something?" But "is there any way I can help?" would work as well.

If a friend is in a very difficult situation, you would ask "is there any way I can help?" implying that you are ready to offer a lot to help. "Can I help you with something?" works also, but the first one suggests more dedication.

To me, "Is this your pen?" is a seemingly harmless question, while "This is your pen?" is something I would say if I unknowingly took someone else's pen and they confronted me for doing so.

Both are correct and valid forms of the past unreal conditional. Instead of using "would have + past participle" in the if-clause, they are using "would + base form of the verb."

From a native perspective, the past participle form emphasizes an action that would have been completed by now, and the base form emphasizes just a state of the world that the subject would be in. I think the second is probably used here for literary value to show how enveloped the character is in these thoughts. Emphasizing something that they are thinking so strongly about that it's not described as things which are past, but the way things could presently "be". It's more dream-like in this way? That's my personal feeling. Here's an example of someone wishing things were different.

"If I stayed at home, I'd be under the covers drinking hot chocolate and reading a book. I'd be happy and cozy and warm. I wouldn't have to worry about the traffic, or snow, or ice, or waiting for my car to heat up. The fireplace would be on and the lights would be dimmed down low and it would be perfect. Instead, I'm at my office making copies of reports with cold hands and fingers."

This paragraph should kind of "take you away" in your mind when you read it because I'm not using any past tense participles. That would make it feel like it was more of a factual list.
