My name is Jamie, and I'm a writer of literary fiction. I often like to study a language and culture if I am writing a character from that background. I was born in Canada, and have lived here exclusively. Although Canada primarily uses English[UK] for its language, our proximity to the United States (and exposure to American media) means that most Canadians know English[US] as much (or more) than English[UK]. If you examine my fluency points, you will see I have very high marks in both. I usually set my filter to look only for unanswered questions, since those questions tend to be the hardest ones to answer.

For audio, you will notice that my accent is distinct and different from both English[US] and English[UK]. It has been said that the Canadian accent takes the simplicity of English[US] and adds a subtle refinement of English[UK]. While some Americans say they find the English[UK] accent hard to understand, they don't have that problem with a Canadian accent. If I am answering a question, I will make sure that it sounds 'natural', and also that it makes sense. Please include a written text of what you are speaking with your question, so I can follow along. Remember, try not to speak too quickly. This is the number one mistake made by new speakers. Focus on accuracy first. As you become more accurate, you will become more confident, and when you become confident you will speak quicker without knowing it. 🙂
