Question à propos de du Hollande
Hi! Sorry in advance if this is dumb question!
I was wondering about the R-sound in Dutch. I always thought it was the same R-sound as in German or French. But recently I listened to a song in Dutch where the R-sound is more like in Italian, Spanish, Russian etc. Is this a certain Dutch dialect maybe? Or can it be because the original version of the song was sung by Cornelis Vreeswijk who spoke alot of Stockholmian-Swedish in his life maybe? And the cover-singer just wanted to sing like Cornelis..?

@alex_abccbd Yes, it is a matter of dialect. I believe the most general/correct way would be the 'r' which you describe as German or French. In the western provinces (I believe¿?) they use the r which you heard in the music clip. Also I noticed Dutch people with roots in Morocco tend to have this pronunciation, which is then heavily adapted by Dutch youth through pop and rap music. I have never noticed any influence by Scandinavian languages though.

There are three types of R sounds that are mostly based on dialect, but one of them is used interchangeably, mostly in specific cases.
Not sure if I can link, but here is a good video explaining the differences and how to makes the sounds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THM0x-DI9yc&...
I am not affiliated with this method and have actually never used his App or so called trainers, but came across this video.
